London South East Academies Trust has welcomed into it the Belmont Woodside Federation.

The decision for the Federation to become part of London South East Academies Trust follows extensive discussion and consultation with the schools, parents and the Department for Education (DfE).

The Federation’s two schools, Belmont and Woodside are situated in Erith, Bexley. Belmont is a mainstream primary school with resourced provision for children who have physical medical needs or vision impairment. Woodside is a special school, offering provision for 5 -19 year olds with autism and additional learning needs. Both schools are rated Good by Ofsted.

Belmont and Woodside have joined the Trust’s seven good and outstanding schools. These are based in Bromley and Bexley, offering special and alternative provision for children from the ages of 5 to 18.

Madelaine Caplin, Executive Headteacher of the Belmont Woodside Federation, says:

“We are excited to be joining London South East Academies Trust and are confident that converting our two high performing schools into academies is in the best interests of the schools, our pupils and our staff.

“Our priority is ensuring we can continue to offer excellent provision for young people across Bexley, many of who have special and medical needs. London South East Academies Trust has an excellent track record of school/college support and improvement and we are pleased to be joining such a forward thinking organisation.”

Sam Parrett OBE, CEO and Group Principal of London & South East Education Group, adds:

“We are delighted to welcome the Belmont Woodside Federation into our Trust. We are extremely proud of our schools and the work they are doing to support young people across Bromley and Bexley.

“Our two new schools – Belmont and Woodside – offer a unique partnership, in which a mainstream primary school is partnered with a 5-19 special school. We look forward to sharing their good practice with our other schools and supporting Belmont and Woodside to continue providing excellent education to their pupils.”
