Sports Premium

Physical Education and school sport continue to play a very important part in the life of Woodside Academy. As a school we actively promote physical activity and encourage pupils to make healthy lifestyle choices. It is our belief that all children should have healthy active lifestyles.

We strive to enhance the key areas below through the use of the sports premium:

  • Increasing engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity and sport
  • Increasing all staff’s confidence, knowledge and skills in teaching PE and sport
  • Raising the profile of PE and sport across the school, to support whole school improvement
  • Offer a broader and more equal experience of a range of sports and physical activities to all pupils
  • Increase participation in competitive sport

To support in achieving this, the following activities have taken place throughout the year.

  • All classes in EYFS/KS1 and some in Key Stage 2 are offered regular session at Europa Gymnastics Centre in Crayford
  • All Primary classes have had the opportunity to attend regular session led by Shine (Baby Ballet)

  • A regular afterschool sports club is on offer for different phases
  • In collaboration with SNAP we were able to offer a rebound club for a number of pupils
  • Staff are trained to deliver rebound sessions during the school day with a number of children accessing this.

  • Key Stage 3 classes attended a weekly session of BMXing, increasing the number of children now able to ride a bike
  • The school work closely with the Local Authority to enable children to sign up and complete the bike ability course on offer. 30+ pupils passed level 1.
  • The use of physical activities such as dance and yoga are regularly embedded within lessons.
  • All children have access to the school daily mile track on a regular basis.
